8.28.07 Update
The 5th Annual Lunch Show has been confirmed for Saturday, November 17th. As always the event will be hosted by bands STNNNG and Signal To Trust at 1st Avenue's 7th Street Entry. This year FT (The Shadow Government) will be joining them on stage. Lunch will be provided, while supplies last. Advance tickets are available at First Avenue. Tickets are $7, doors are at 12pm (noon), and as with previous years, the Lunch Show is all ages.
Each person in attendance will receive a copy of the new STNNNG & Signal To Trust split 7", released on Modern Radio. This record is being pressed in limited numbers, exclusively for the Lunch Show, so the best way to secure a copy is to attend. Additionally, those in attendance will have the first opportunity to purchase two new Modern Radio releases: FT (The Shadow Government) The Black & White Album on CD. The vinyl of the album will be released by Iowa City record label Scenester Credentials. Signal to Trust's Golden Armour will also be released on vinyl as a double LP, in a very limited pressing. Crazy awesome artwork will once again be designed and printed by Dan Black as is the CD version.
The same bands will play later that evening at the Turf Club in St. Paul for a ID show, with the addition of Weather is Happening from Wichita KS. We saw the Weather Is Happening down at ICT Fest and they are great! Its the new band from Dan Davis and Casey from Ricky Fitts. They are loud as hell and will make this whole day extra special as it has been the last 4 years.
His Mischief will be out on the road again this Fall for a East Coast tour, but not before they play First Avenue's Mainroom with Ted Leo and The Pharmacists on Saturday, October 13th. Get your tickets at First Avenue while they last. Further tour info will be posted on the shows page when confirmed.
Modern Radio will be helping Total Fucking Blood distribute their CD
Blaze The Lord, released on Freedom From Records. Total Fucking Blood has bolstered the original line-up of Pete Biasi and Ben Ivascu (Falcon Crest, Building Better Bombs, Signal To Trust, Private Dancer, Central Division Champs) to include Adam Burt (STNNNG, ex-The Vets) on guitar and Freddy Votel (Skoal Kodiak, ex-Cows, ex-Seawhores) on 2nd drum kit. The live line-up is not to be missed and the album is absolutely punishing.
Expect more news on future releases in the upcoming months.
Its going to be a busy year!

2.28.07 Update
Just a quick update. The STNNNG LPs are finally back from the pressing plant. Thanks to ymixx for doing a great job mastering the record. The LPs look and sound great. They are available for purchase in the order section and will be distributed locally and at select distros in the coming weeks. Also, if you have purchased a copy of the first pressing we will be sending the new version out to mail orders ASAP. Thanks for your patience.
STNNNG is busy booking thier Spring jaunt down to Texas and back. They also have a few local and regional dates setup for the coming months which include a couple northern Minnesota dates with friends The Chambermaids. As always, you can check the shows section or the band's website for show listings.
We have another great release up on the site, available for mail order. There are a limited number of Bottom Jobs CDs. For those of you that aren't familiar with Bottom Jobs, this project is the work of Adam Patterson (The Vets, Lazer Forever) Chris Besinger (STNNNG) and Mike Giles. These tracks were recorded at Hidden Bird House by Josh Tibbetts. The packaging was also printed by Mr. Tibbetts.
1.31.07 Update
We've got a few things coming up in 2007 that we'd like to share with you. First of all, thanks to everyone who helped make 2006 such an amazing year. Modern Radio was able to release 12 projects in as many months. We're very proud of our involvement in each release and even more proud of each artist. Here's to you Adam Bubolz, Cave Deaths, The Chambermaids, The Danforths, Devillock, Malachi Constant ,The Plastic Constellations, Shotgun Monday, Signal To Trust, STNNNG, Styrofoam Duck, Tight Phantomz, Tornavalanche and Yellow Swans.
So what's in store for 2007? We've got a few releases already lined up and several others that are still being worked out. Here is what we can confirm so far.
The long anticipated Mirah CD is going to be pushed back to sometime around her next full length album on K Records. There is no release date announced. We are guessing late 2007 or early 2008. The project has expanded constantly for the better. Good things come to those who wait and based on the tracks we have so far, this is definitely the truth.
Modern Radio will also be involved with the new Tornavalanche 12"/CDEP. It will be another split release with the excellent Exotic Fever label. We had so much fun co-releasing the Tornavalanche / Tight Phantomz split that it just made sense to work with them again. In case you missed it, Tornavalanche put out their first EP on Level Plane and it was one of the best of last year, in our books. The new EP is set for late Fall, 2007.
FT (The Shadow Government) is busy finishing up their new material and expect to be done soon. They have been recording in Chicago and Iowa City with bass and drum tracks done at Steve Albini's studio, Electrical Audio. Look for the new CD this Spring / Summer on Modern Radio. Vinyl will be done by the Iowa City label, Scenester Credentials. Several shows are planned in Iowa, Wisconsin and Chicago this Spring. The band has Pete Biasi on bass who plays in several Twin Cities bands including Signal To Trust, Total F*cking Blood, Superhopper, and Falcon Crest. The rest of the band members are from Chicago, Iowa City and Milwaukee.
There are a few other projects that we are working on that will be equally as awesome. Several of them are projects and bands from the Twin Cities. We'll let you know more as we hash out the details.
We'd also like to remind you of some shows out and around town involving Modern Radio artists
The Chambermaids will be appearing on The Current's Local show Sunday, February 4 at 5pm. You can listen on 89.3 or online at mpr.org. The band will also be playing select Midwest shows in Wisconsin and Illinois during February and March, with friends Vampire Hands and Bottomless Pit. Locally, The Chambermaids will welcome infamous Chicago band M.O.T.O. to the Triple Rock Social Club on Friday, February 17. It should be crazy good.
STNNNG has been very busy in support of their new record Fake Fake. Since the release the band has played some memorable shows with Dianogah, The Ex and Shellac, who opened their release show at the 7th St. Entry in November. The band is headed south for a tour down to Texas in mid-April. STNNNG has a few local and Midwest shows lined up as well. Check out the shows section for the details. Come on out and say hi to the band.
Signal To Trust has not broken up, despite rumors. They will be playing some shows throughout the year as Brian is back in town visiting. The packaging on the album looks amazing and local press and radio will be getting these soon. We had to hold off because we had to wait for more coves to be printed and the first batch sold through really quickly. We are excited for people to hear this. Its a timeless record.
2007 is going to be fun!
12.6.06 Update
Yellow Swans / Devillock split 7" is finally done! That is release number 12 for the year. It looks and sounds great. They are available for mail order now and will be in local stores in the next few weeks. If you are from out of town and looking for it in stores, it may take awhile since most of the distros don't take new stuff this late in the year due to the holiday schedule.
The vinyl on STNNNG “Fake Fake” is being redone right now as we speak. We are getting a new test and getting everything redone. There were some issues we discovered on the vinyl that we were not happy with and the pressing plant is going to redo it. We have pulled it from local stores and other places. If you bought it at either release shows and/or mailorder, you will get new vinyl when it is done. If you are in town and get us the vinyl or want to send it to us, it would be greatly appreciated. The CD is still available and if things move right, the new pressing of the vinyl should be done really soon. I am guessing early January but it may be earlier. If you are sending it back, we only need the vinyl. The packaging turned out exactly how we wanted it to.
Signal To Trust Golden Armour is done and available in local stores and mail order. Look for it in distros early next year. We can't say enough about how glad we are that it is out and that everything looks and sounds great.
The releases set for the new year so far are the CD by Mirah which is a collection of previously unreleased and out of print tracks, including the songs from the Small Sale 7". Also, the CD version of the upcoming FT (The Shadow Government) album. There are a few other fun things in the mix as well that are still being figured out.
This has been a busy year. Thanks to everyone who contributed, making 2006 a banner year for Modern Radio.
10.14.06 Update
STNNNG has been busy completing their new album entitled “Fake Fake”. CD's have returned from manufacturing and turned out great! The packaging features a red tinted jewel case with interactive artwork designed by Aesthetic Apparatus. CD's are available through mail order on the orders page and will be distributed in the coming weeks. “Fake Fake” will also be available soon on a limited run of vinyl. The LP is in the works and with a little luck will be done in a month.
The band is currently on tour in support of “Fake Fake” They are playing select Midwest dates in the coming weeks and will also be traveling to the East coast for a week of shows. Please come out to support them on tour if you are in the area. For the most up to date show itinerary visit stnnng.com.
Signal To Trust CD "Golden Armour" is almost finished. It is in the mixing and mastering phase. Dan Black is doing the design and screen printing for the packaging which involves intricate paper folding and will no doubt blow your mind on multiple levels. Release on this CD is tentatively set for November 18 at The 4th Annual lunch show.
Yellow Swans / Devillock split is still being worked out at the pressing plant. The test press should arrive in the next day or two and if it comes through good this time it shouldn't be more than 3 weeks.
The Mirah CD is going to be delayed. This is a good thing however, since the delay is because she wants to add even more tracks that are previously unreleased. Everything she has sent to this point has sounded great, so be patient cause the wait will be well worth it.
7.26.06 Update
It's time for the latest installment of the Modern Radio News Update. It has been a crazy, busy 2006, with much in store for the rest of the year.

The Mirah CD collection is still in the works. We are still aiming for the Fall with this release.
Adam Patterson of The Vets will be moving to Milwaukee for graduate school so the band will be put on the backburner for awhile. They have a few midwest shows in August and that is all that they have scheduled for the future right now.
Andrew Larson (also of The Vets) will be leaving Cave Deaths. The band may play one more show with Andy on bass. The band intends to continue on with a new bass player in the not too distant future.
The Chambermaids are working on a midwest tour in August. More details soon.
6.17.06 Update
Modern Radio will be doing a new split 7" by San Fransisco's Yellow Swans and Minneapolis's own Devillock. Check out Tonefilth's website if you get a chance. Yellow Swans have a number of releases out including most recently a full length on Load Records. They are constantly on tour so check them out. I am going to add their shows to the shows section soon. If you are in the Twin Cities, you will get two chances to see them at the Turf Club in June and then later in September. Total Fucking Blood have a new CD out of Freedom From that is ungodly loud and amazing. The album is called Blaze The Lord. Total Fucking Blood is Pete and Ben who also play in Falcon Crest and Signal To Trust. Pete of Total Fucking Blood, Signal To Trust and Falcon Crest who has also toured with FT (The Shadow Government) has also joined the ranks of friends of Modern Radio, Superhopper, on bass. Yeah, he is a busy guy playing in that many awesome bands.
More news about upcoming releases by Mirah, STNNNG, and Signal To Trust will be posted in the news section and on the message board. Thanks to everyone who showed up for the United for Choice benefit this week in St. Paul. We raised a lot of money to maintain the rights of women to have control over their own bodies.

3.30.06 Update
The Danforths CD Lookout For the Wolves is now available for mailorder. The covers and comic / coloring book artwork are really neat. Its hard to describe. Chris Danforth and Barrett Haroldson did a great job and made each cover look unique. These will be in Twin Cities record stores soon as well as at their release show on Friday April 21st at The Turf Club in St. Paul. They are playing with The Doers and Deep Pool. They are also playing a show with Vaz in May that we are super excited about too! See the shows section for more information
The Plastic Constellations vinyl of their new album Crusades is set to be ready for their shows with Hockey Night at the Triple Rock on April 22nd. You can see the artwork if you click on the link for the record in the order or releases sections. It is different from the CD and looks equally awesome. They just got back from a long tour and will be headed out on the road again this Summer.
We are proud to help release a new photo album by local photographer / friend Adam Bubolz called I Like The Lights . It is 36 pages with a slew of bands who have released stuff on the label and a bunch of other great bands as well including Signal To Trust, Ten Grand, Sunn0))), Tornavalanche, Malachi Constant, Sicbay...well, you get the point. Lots of great bands. All of the photos were taken in the Twin Cities and around the Midwest since 2000. You can find more information HERE . We also advise checking out Adam's website at www.ilikethelights.com .
The Styrofoam Duck CD is going to be coming out in May. The name of the CD will be called Emergency's Only Friend . The release show is set for Friday May 12 at the Hexagon Bar in Minneapolis. You have one last show to see it at Big V's on Friday April 7th.
The Mirah CD is coming together. It is looking like it will be 14 tracks. She is still on hiatus from playing live for a year and she has been enjoying it.
Last but not least, we will be releasing the new full length by Signal To Trust . They are currently working on finishing up recording with Brooce and Neil. No timetable on the release but I can't even begin to describe my excitement regarding this release. These songs have been a long time in the work and have been worth the wait. If you want a teaser of what will be on the new album, CLICK HERE to go a website that has some live video of Signal To Trust from February. The sound is fantastic and I have been listening to these songs non-stop. All of these songs will be on the new album. Super excitement!
2.21.06 Update
More new releases! Can you believe there is another update already? Yeah, its probably going to be like this a lot this year.
The new Malachi Constant album, Pride, is available for mailorder now. The artwork and everything turned out great. See the last update and the shows section for information about their release show. They have a show in the works for April 1st that should rule but shhh, nothing is set yet. For now you can download a live performance and hilarious interview with the band from Sunday January 19th. Go here to download the podcast of the show. This CD is a co-release with local label Guilt Ridden Pop.
The Tornavalanche / Tight Phantomz is also now available for mailorder. The covers look even better in person. Again, this is a co-release with Exotic Fever, a DC record label.
The Danforths CD will be done very soon. We are waiting for the comic book insert to be finished and then you will be able to get it. The Essay Records version is out now but I know you want to wait to get the version with the comic book and rad packaging.
The Plastic Constellations vinyl of their new album Crusades is tentatively being scheduled to be ready for two shows they are playing with Hockey Night at the Triple Rock on April 22nd. Tentative is the key word but the vinyl is already in process of being made and some great ideas are floating around regarding the jackets.
The Mirah CD is coming together. It is looking like anywhere from 11-15 tracks. We are hoping before the end of May.
The Styrofoam Duck CD is being mixed by Ben and Bruce Templeton in the coming weeks. If all goes well, the record should be available sometime in April or May.
We are working on seriously revamping the website to make it easier for us to update it, easier to navigate and easier to order records. This and many things are in the works. 2006 will rip!
1.24.06 Update
The first releases of 2006 are in and more to follow very soon!
Cave Deaths Glacier on Fire and The Chambermaids s/t CDs are available for mail order and for sale in most Twin Cities record stores. Both bands will be celebrating the release of their first album together in two great shows, packed to the brim with wonderful bands. The first show will be 21+ and free at the Hexagon Bar on Saturday, January 28th with Mute Era (ex-Sweet JAP) and Die Electric. The following day will be the ALL AGES show at the Triple Rock Social Club with Signal To Trust and Gay Beast. See the shows section for more information on these events. MP3s will be available in the releases section as always. Enjoy!!!
Malachi Constant has finished their new record entitled Pride. It should be available for mail order and for sale in the Twin Cities in the next few weeks. Select tracts have already received play on twin cities radio. Malachi Constant will be celebrating the release of Pride with two release shows on the 24th and 25th of February. The 24th will be an ID show at the Turf Club with Hockey Night., The Vets and Gay Beast. and the 25th will be an ALL AGES show at the Dinkytowner with Hockey Night., Signal To Trust and The Deaf. The Shim Sham Shufflers and "comedian" Nils Lindahl will be performing at both shows. Come out to both shows and clown on Carl. He likes it.
The Tornavalanche / Tight Phantomz vinyl is back from the pressing plant and the record covers are being printed. Just a few more weeks to put everything together so be patient, cause the wait will be well worth it. This 7" is going to be a co-release with the Exotic Fever label out of Washington DC, run by two awesome ladies, Sara and Katy. They have put out a bunch of great records, including the new Rickyfitts, Wizard Lisp. Working with other great labels is what makes putting out records even more fun. Check out their label at www.exoticfever.com. It's a pleasure to be working with them. It seems great things happen when these bands get together, so it makes sense that Tornavalanche is working on a new recording with Mike Lust (Tight Phantomz) at Phantom Manor.
The Danforths have just finished their new CD called Look Out for the Wolves. The CD is being released by Essay Records. Also, a limited run of 200 CDs with special, hand crafted packaging with be made available by Modern Radio. Contact us to pre-order. This will be available very soon!
Pssst. Can you keep a secret? The Plastic Constellations will be releasing their new CD, Crusades on French Kiss Records, home of The Hold Steady, Lifter Puller and the fine gentlemen of Les Savy Fav. Well that's no secret. Both release shows will be at Triple Rock Social Club on January 27th and will include performances by STNNNG along with a bunch of other great bands. That's no secret either. Will there be vinyl for this release? I'm glad you asked. Yes! Our newest release, due out this Spring is going to be the vinyl version of the new Plastic Constellation's Crusades. The first pressing will be about 500-600 copies. We are really excited to be working with the Plastic Constellations guys again; four of the best people you would ever want to know (let alone release a record by). The Plastic Constellations will be touring the east coast and south with The Hold Steady. We are hoping to have the vinyl finished some time in April.
The CD reissue of the Mirah Small Sale 7" with previously unreleased and out of print tracks, is still in the works. No word on when the CD will come out, hopefully this Spring.
Also in the works is the debut full-length CD of Styrofoam Duck. The Duck has recently returned to the stage, playing various twin cities venues and will continue to perfect the CD, tentatively set to release spring of 2006.
STNNNG is doing a small midwest tour with FT (Shadow Government) and Call Me Lightning (Revelation Records). At the end of the tour, they will be recording again with Mike Lust in Chicago this spring. They are staying busy around town, on the road and collecting all sorts of accolades for Dignified Sissy, a media favorite of 2005. We were all caught a bit off guard by all the kind words and things people have said. It is always nice when the press pays notice to such a well deserving band. Modern Radio would like to extend these kind regards by congratulating Jesse of STNNNG who got married on New Years Eve and to Nate who is getting married this Spring.
Modern Radio may be working with Hockey Night (Lookout! Records) on a record at some point in the near future. No details other than that, but we'll keep everyone updated as more definite plans emerge. What we do know for certain is that they are great guys and it's exciting to be working with them. Hockey Night continues to support their current record, Keep Guessin' out on Lookout Records. So look out for the band as they come to your town.
The Vets are working on recording their 3rd full length record with Bruce Templeton. Its going to be recorded over a long period of time so you'll have to settle for seeing them slay the new songs live. See the shows section.
Modern Radio releases are now available for download on a few digital music sites. Stnnng's Dignified Sissy, The Vets‚ s/t and Ad Infinitum, Signal To Trust's Folklore and The Plastic Constellation's Let's War are available on Rapsody.com, matchmusic.com, music.yahoo.com and coming soon to itunes. Some sites' search engines are a little tricky so if artist searches don't work then try searching by album title. More releases with be available soon.
There are a few other things in the works but nothing set in stone. We'll keep em coming this year if you keep on listenin'. Thanks and regards!
Pete, Tom and family
10.24.05 Update
This is going to be a busy year and this update will get you caught up to speed on all of the sure bets you'll see from Modern Radio this next year. We have a few more things in the works and we'll have it up on the website soon.
The newest addition to the handful of new releases is going to be a split 7" between Tornavalanche and Tight Phantomz. Both bands are from Chicago. Tornavalanche is Dan and Whitney of Forstella Ford and Zach, Bob, and Joel of Ten Grand. I had the fortunate chance to see these guys at ICT fest this summer and they were great. Tight Phantomz are on Southern Records and feature Mike Lust who was in Lustre King Lustre King and recorded STNNNG Dignified Sissy. Yeah, they kickass as well. This split will have new and exclusive songs by both bands. We're going to print up about 600 copies of these 7"s and they should be done before the end of the year if everything goes as planned.
Modern Radio will jointly release the new Malachi Constant record with Guilt Ridden Pop (or the new name for this label) and Double Indemnity (the band's label). I have known the guys in Malachi Constant for years and I am excited to be working on this record. The record is slated out in January / February and is going to be titled Pride. You can find their 2 previous releases, Zenith and Infinite Justice, on Guilt Ridden Pop. They will be playing a New Year's Eve show that should be incredible.
Two name changes: The Shut-Ins and hand have both changed their names. The Shut-Ins are now called The Chambermaids and hand is now called Cave Deaths. It is fitting they both change their names because they will be both releasing their debut full lengths at the same time. The Chambermaids and Cave Deaths will be playing two release shows. The 21+ show will be Saturday January 28th at The Hexagon in Minneapolis and the all ages show will be at the Triple Rock Social Club on Sunday January 29th. These records will both have hand made packaging that should look really neat.
Last update I mentioned the CD version of the Mirah 7". The CD version will include either 7-8 songs that have either been unreleased or were on the long out of print Parts of Human Desire cassette. This will most likely come out this Spring. I am excited for this to come out because there are some songs on that Part of Human Desire cassette that I was hoping could be released at some point. One of the extra songs is a cover of The Halo Benders song Lonesome Sundown. Mirah is taking the year off of playing solo shows to write material, to play around with other projects like Black Cat Orchestra and to just live in her current residence Portland.
STNNNG have had an eventful Fall. They went down to Chicago for the first of many trips to work on recording new material with Mike Lust. Our friend Joel of Tornavalanche video taped some of the band's session that you can view online at HERE. Joel did clips like this of Johnathon Warnburg of Signal To Trust, Tight Phantomz and William Elliott Whitmore and you can find some of these to watch on the same page as well. STNNNG were voted Picked To Click by the City Pages (Twin Cities weekly free magazine). This is a vote of local writers, promoters and other folks. You can find the story and links to some other interesting interviews and reviews STNNNG has received HERE.
Signal To Trust have been hard at work recording 6 songs with Neil Weir (of The Chambermaids) and Brooce Templeton (who has been the mastermind behind a ton of great local releases over the last few years including The Vets and Volante). I heard a few songs when I popped by the studio and they sounded as amazing as I would expect from hearing the songs live and knowing the talents of Brooce and Neil to capture the band at their best.
Styrofoam Duck are still working on their CD for Modern Radio. The new album will come out sometime this Spring/Summer.
Details are still being worked out on a release with The Danforths. I will have more next update.
Model Down Model Down finished their tour and took a pitstop to record songs with Mike Wisti in Minneapolis for the last few months.
Don't forget about the 3rd annual lunch show on Saturday November 19th. This is becoming somewhat of a tradition as the last two years Signal To Trust and STNNNG have played an early Saturday show where they provide lunch and music for the audience. The last two years were great. They are both leaving from the show to play Duluth right afterwards. Roadtrip!
I added a bunch of new shows to the shows section including a place for shows by Malachi Constant and Tornavalanche with more bands to be added to that section. I have included links to the websites of the bands as well where you can find additional information about upcoming shows, tour and other fun stuff.
8.21.05 Update
Lots of new stuff to announce after taking a Summer away in Europe for Tom (ps. it was great to get away but it is always awesome to come back to the lovely Twin Cities.)
Modern Radio will be releasing several new records of bands from the Twin Cities area. The first one is tentatively set for release in late October this year and it will be the first full length for the Minneapolis three piece, The Shut-Ins. The Shut-Ins are currently Neil Weir, Martha Weir and Colin Johnson. They have been playing around the Twin Cities as a duo of Marth and Neil with a drum machine and in the last year they have been playing with Colin on drums. I could gush about this band for awhile but I think their myspace page at www.myspace.com/shutins and their website www.shut-ins.comare the best place to start. The two pages includes pictures, information about shows, and MP3s. The full length is 10 songs at a little over 30 minutes and it is sweet. More info on the specific details of the release soon.
The details for the other releases are still being worked out but it will include CD releases by locals including hand from St. Paul (hand features Andy of The Vets and Nate of STNNNG), The Chris Danforths 2nd album, due out in Spring 2006 (Adam from the Vets, and Jonathon Warnberg, formerly of Signal to Trust and the Misfires, have performed with and on Chris Danforths records) , and Styrofoam Duck (from Minneapolis, due out in 2006). Also, we are working on releasing a CD version of the Mirah "Small Sale" 7" that will likely include unreleased songs that were on the way out of print cassette Parts of Human Desire. Again, more details will follow as things progress.
The Model Down is in the midst of a tour for their Voicing The Circuit CDEP on Modern Radio. I had the opportunity to see them in St. Paul last Friday and they were excellent. Check out their website and myspace page www.myspace.com/modeldown for dates. They can still use some help in some cities to get in touch if you can assist these boys.
The Plastic Constellations have signed on to do their 3rd full length with French Kiss Records out of New York. They will be doing a tour out east to play the CMJ showcase for French Kiss. French Kiss has put out great records by the Hold Steady, Les Savy Fav and others. Congrats guys!
Signal To Trust just finished a quick jaunt out east. Thanks to everyone who was able to help them. They are recording new material this Fall. No plans or details on how it will be released and by who but I am excited about hearing all of the new songs they have been playing live on record.
Gene Defcon have a new CD out on Retard Disco. See http://www.genedefcon.com for more info on the record and what good ol' Gene is up to these days
Motion City Soundtrack released their 2nd full length on Epitaph, did Warped Tour again and even appeared on Conan O'Brien.
6.28.05 Update
I (Tom) am headed out of the country tomorrow, June 29th, until August 9th. I am headed to Europe (Budapest, Paris, and Italy with a stop over in Iceland and maybe some other places) to finish up a class for school. I will have email access for a least the first two weeks but it will be sporatic after that. My friend Peter Mielech has been helping me with the label a bunch lately and will be handling mailorders, press, radio, and distribution stuff in my absense. His email is peter@modern-radio.com . Feel free to contact him if you have any questions about orders or whatever. Do feel free to email me while I am gone especially if you have good advice on vegetarian restaurants in any of the cities I have mentioned I am traveling to. The website will not be updated much over the next 40 days but look for information about shows for the bands on their myspace pages, webpages or on the messageboard.
We up and did it and got a button maker for the label. Currently there is a wide array of designs of buttons with the label logo and other designs for the label. In addition, we have made buttons for several bands including STNNNG(3 different designs!), Signal To Trust, The Vets and Falcon Crest. More designs are to come soon. If you throw in a little extra money in your order we will be sure to include a button of any of the following bands and/or a Modern Radio button. Otherwise, you can get buttons from the bands at their shows.
The Model Down CDEP, Voicing the Circuit is now available via mailorder for $6 postage paid. The band will be touring a big chunk of the summer including a date in the Twin Cities with Malachi Constant who are playing their last show most likely. Model Down's tour itinerary is at their myspace page at www.myspace.com/modeldown If you can help in any of the cities where they have gaps it is greatly appreciated.
4.25.05 Update
STNNNG CD and LP are now available for mailorder. I am grabbing copies of the vinyl from the band tonight. The band released the vinyl on their own. The vinyl is $12. The vinyl is a limited run of 300 copies. It has full color artwork and insert. If you are in the Twin Cities, you should be able to find the CD version in most if not all independent record stores. The vinyl will be in local stores as well. Distributors (outside of the Twin Cities) will be have copies of the record very soon. STNNNG have changed their website to http://www.stnnng.com . One other major update I forgot to include was that STNNNG added a bass player Jesse Kwakenat. He started playing with them on January 28th and has played with them since including their recent tour with Falcon Crest. Speaking of which, the tour generally went well. There were some serious van problems in Denver but it did not stop the band from making their shows.
The Deerhoof /Sicbay split are in stock. Mailorder and distros can feel free to order at will.
Good news on the Signal To Trust front. They will be playing their first shows with Ben Ivascu (also of Falcon Crest) on drums in June. The first shows will be Friday June 10th at Gabe's in Iowa City with a new band with folks from Ten Grand and Forstella Ford called Tornavalanche, Sat. June 11th in Wichita Kansas for ICT Fest and Sun. June 19th at The Dinkytowner in Minneapolis. I am incredibly excited to see them playing again. They have written several new songs since Ben has joined the band and I am excited to see these shows!
The Vets resized record covers are in stock now!
Falcon Crest has a new CD out called Taste the Thunder,Raise The Flag released by our friends at Not Bad Records in Denver. I do have some copies on hand so if you are interested in ordering it via mailorder, contact me first. The price is $7 postpaid but I have a limited quantity since I did not release it. The best bet is to order from Not Bad via their website at http://www.notbadrecords.com/
3.7.05 Update
Lots and lots of news!
STNNNG (pronounced Stunning) CD Dignified Sissy will be available for mailorder on Friday March 11th. The CD version will not be available in stores or distributors until closer to the release shows they are playing. Fortunately, for you out of town folks, they are going to be on touring from the 18th of March till the 26th with Falcon Crest. 9 dudes in one van on Spring Break. Watch out. STNNNG will have the CD and LP version available on the road. Minnesota people! The release shows are set for April 9th (7th Street Entry-ID show) and April 10th(Dinkytowner-all ages show). For show information and tour dates see the shows section. STNNNG are selfreleasing the vinyl version of the LP but if you are interested in ordering it via mailorder, get in touch. I will be carrying copies of it via mailorder at some point in the near future.
The Deerhoof /Sicbay split are in the process of being repressed. The 2nd press will be identical to the first press. I was short covers for the first press so I will be sending those out to distribtors this week and there are enough on hand to cover anyone who is interested in ordering them while the 2nd press copies are being pressed. Deerhoof are almost always on tour and will be playing some midwest shows with Sicbay in May. Sicbay are also playing some shows about town in addition to preparing to record a new album sometime this Summer with Brooce Templeton.
Modern Radio is pleased to be assisting Boston's model down with the release of their first CDEP, Voicing the Circuit. model down are from Boston and feature Sheridan Fox formerly of the St. Paul trio Effervescent. Check out their website at wwww.modeldown.net for some MP3s of songs off the record. This CDEP is expected out sometime this Spring.
The Vets resized record covers should be in stock soon. They will be playing a show this weekend at the Triple Rock. See shows section.
Signal To Trust have been practicing will their new drummer Ben Ivascu. Ben currently plays in Falcon Crest with Pete from Signal To Trust as well. No word on when they will start playing out with Ben on drums.
Speaking of Falcon Crest, their new CDEP will be available from Not Bad Records soon. The band already has copies and they will be playing release shows for this record. The new CDEP will be available at their shows on tour
The final Volante EP, Diode is available for download on their website for free at this site on the Guilt Ridden Pop site. Still no word on any projects from the guys in this band since calling it a day.
11.30.04 Update
Once again I have to update the site for bad news. Volante will be calling it a day. The plans for European release of Static Until Sunrise has been cancelled as well as future tours. Volante will be playing one final show on Wednesday January 5th at the Triple Rock Social Club. This will be an ID show with out of towners The Rickyfitts, Ian Cooke of Uphollow, Kelpie, and White Dynamite. The break was amicable. No word on plans of the new EP they recorded but it will most likely be available in one form or another.
Jonathon Warnberg (The Misfires,Signal To Trust) is playing his last show with Signal To Trust on Friday December 17th. The Vets, Sicbay, and Heads and Bodies will be playing the show. It is 21+.
11.18.04 Update
Wow, another update within the last month. Unfortunately, it isn't for the best news in the world. Jonathon Warnberg (The Misfires,Signal To Trust) will be leaving Signal To Trust. Jonathon will be playing at least two final shows with the band with this Saturday's 7th Street Entry show being his last all ages show with Signal To Trust. The show will be with STNNNG (aka The Stunning) and locals Aneuretical. Its the 2nd anniversary lunch show and the doors are at NOON. No Joke! Signal To Trust will continue on. Jonathon will continue to make music on his own. He is working on a solo metal project that is pretty wild! I'm sad to see him leave but the break was amicable and works out best for all sides. Go out and see his last two shows with them.
The Deerhoof /Sicbay split are flying out the door! Get them while they're available. The two shows I saw Deerhoof with Wilco in the Twin Cities were great. Go see them. They will be making their way back to the Midwest this Spring. Sicbay will be starting to play out sooner than previously reported. They will play one more show this year with US Maple and STNNNG (aka The Stunning) at The Triple Rock
The Vets are working on a midwest tour in January. Write them if you can help out. The dates they are looking for help with are listed as TBA in the shows section
10.21.04 Update
Ok, Its about time for an update me thinks! I have posted about a lot of these things on the message board earlier but I wanted to make sure they were here since the traffic on the board has sped up. Stop by and join in. I promise no one will bite, or at least not too hard.
The Deerhoof /Sicbay split is DONE. A picture is featured in the releases section. The covers look great and were handscreened by a local screenprint artist Amy Jo Hendrickson. The first press is 600 of the split on black vinyl. Sicbay is taking a short break in the action to work on songs and will start playing out live again in early 2005 with a show on Wed. Jan 26 2005. Deerhoof is currently busy as usual doing several touring dates with Wilco! The unofficial release show for the split is going to be the Deerhoof shows with Wilco at the Orpheum in Minneapolis. The first show is sold out! Deerhoof recently made a live album available online at http://deerhoof.killrockstars.com/DEERHOOF/boo.html. For those of you interested in ordering the split it is $4 postage paid.
The Vets new album Ad Infinitum is available now in mailorder. It is $10 postage paid. It turned out amazing. The covers are handscreened by Scott Brown of the wonderful band Noise Queen Ant . They are trying to work out some shows out and about in the midwest. Check out their myspace page at www.myspace.com/thevets . They are completely slaying live right now!
Modern Radio wants to welcome a new member to the family, STNNNG (aka The Stunning). I have mentioned them in previous updates because 1) Adam from The Vets is in this band 2) They are an amazing band! We'll be releasing their new album Dignified Sissy on CD sometime before Spring 2005. The band will be doing a small pressing of vinyl of this record which will be available before the CD. I will probably be carrying copies for those who are interested in mailorder. If you don't know anything about The Stunning, go to their website http://stnnng.com .
Enjoy! See the shows section of the site for upcoming shows by them. Check the shows section for updates on all of the Modern Radio family / related bands. Volante will be embarking on a east coast tour soon. Mirah is finishing up her Fall tour. Signal To Trust are finishing up the demoing of their new material and are starting to play out live. Pete from Signal To Trust is playing in a metal / grind side project with Ben from Falcon Crest called Total Fucking Blood. I haven't seen them yet but they sound deliciously heavy. Andy from The Vets and Nate from The Stunning are in a band called hand. The other members are Holly on trumpet and Danny on drums. Danny played in Nate's previous band United Snakes (who were known earlier as Pennie Arcade). Nate sings and plays guitar and Andy plays bass. They are quite excellent. Their shows will be listed in the shows section from now on.Tom's two cents: Hope everyone is adjusting well to the Fall and had a great Summer. If you live in the Twin Cities area and know of a good indoor gym to play basketball in, contact me via my email in the contact section. A bunch of people on the message board and in the Twin Cities have been getting together every Saturday to play basketball outdoors in St. Paul. The weather is making it harder and harder so we are searching out a suitable space. Its coed and everyone is welcome. Its a lot of fun and a good way for people to hangout outside of bars and clubs. Look for posts on the message board. Sorry for those who don't like sports but I can't deny that I love basketball and yes, I even get caught up in the hoopla of major league baseball playoffs. I am embarking into no man's land by entering in a fantasy basketball league with a bunch of folks who are into music. Wish me luck. ps. no Modern Radio are not a bunch of jocks. If you saw any of us on the board on the court you would understand that very quickly.8.12.04 Update The Let's Be Active compilation, Keep The Fuzz Off My Buzz came out during the first week of May. It is available for mailorder for $10 postage paid. The covers are all hand screened and each cover is unique due to the way it was screened and the colors used. They look sweet. The covers are being done by a local screenprinter/artist Amy Jo. The first press will be 600 copies on black vinyl.
Sicbay is going to take some time off of playing around for the rest of the year so make sure you don't miss their last show of 2004 on August 28. They'll be back playing out in 2005.

The Vets set up an account on myspace where you can download material from their new album. As previously mentioned, the Vets will be touring in late August. The tour will be around the midwest including Colorado. See the shows section for more info on their touring dates and local shows. They have blown me away the last few times I have seen them and they just keep throwing in all sorts of new songs that will destroy you. I am hoping to get an MP3 up on the site from the album as well.
Signal To Trust are working on recording new material and playing only a couple shows in the time being. I can't wait to hear all the new songs recorded.
The Stunning (features Adam of the Vets) recorded a full length album with Mike Lust in Chicago a few weeks ago. No word on how and when it will be released but it is sure to be amazing. One of my favorite new local bands by far. Track down their split with the Means on Nodak.
Volante's is doing a west coast tour. Dates are posted on the site. They are doing a bunch of touring including both coast and Europe. They are also releasing Static Until Sunrise in Europe via a Spanish label.
The Plastic Constellations are getting great reviews from their new record Mazatlan on 2024 records and for good reason because it is a great record. Check out the new and improved Plastic constellations website at www.theplasticconstellations.com They are playing tne infamous "teen stage" at the State Fair in Minnesota. Hide your mothers and daughters.
Mirah is doing a tour of the US this Fall.

He plays sax in the Denver rock band called Call Sign Cobra and sings for a band called Mustangs and Madras who will be on tour this Fall. Expect a new update soon when the new releases are available!4.15.04 Update First the sort of crappy news, I am changing the mailorder prices of CDs and LPs to $10. 7"s are still $4 and CDEPs $6 but I needed to raise the price in order to accomodate shipping and everything else that goes into making good records. Now to the fun stuff. Get ready for the Let's Be Active Tour and compilation LP! Tour dates are listed in the shows section. Bands on the tour and compilation are Paradise Island(Jenny from Erase Errata's solo project), William Elliot Whitmore, FT(Shadow Government),and Let's Be Active. FT(Shadow Goverment) is Joel of Ten Grand Fame and Luke Tweedy. They changed their name from Flaccid Trip already. This compilation will be on vinyl and will be limited to 550 LPs that will be sold on the tour. The covers will be screen printed by Mr. Let's Be Active himself.
Modern Radio will be assisting The Vets in releasing their second full length. The album is in the process of being mastered and we are hoping to release the album by sometime in July/August.
The Deerhoof / Sicbay split 7" will be coming out sometime this Summer. No exact word on a release date but both bands should be finished with tracks shortly. Sicbay has a new split with an Austrian band called Valina. Deerhoof has a new album out on vinyl and CD. They are on tour. See them!
The covers for the repress of the Mirah 7" are in. Go ahead and order them! I have told people to hold off before getting in touch because they were in very small quantity but I have a good amount in stock. Mirah will also have them available at shows in the not too distant future. See Mirah on tour. She is playing the Twin Cities today and I am very excited! Mirah also has a new CD already out on Yoyo records and has an additional record that will be out in May on K called C'Mon Miracle. Its a fantastic record!
Freeze Baby has called it a day. Mary and Steph are currently working on new projects.
Volante has a new album out now called Static Until Sunrise. Its fantastic. They are on a west coast tour. Go out and say hi to the boys. They will be hanging out in LA for a few days so treat them well and leave them in one piece.
2.12.04 Update Its been a long time coming for an update on the site. I am sending out an email corresponding with this. If you want on the email list, get in touch. Now to the upcoming releases! The first release is a co-release with Sawtooth record. The release will be a split 7" between Deerhoof and Sicbay. Sawtooth is Nick from Sicbay's label. These are two bands I love and a perfect fit on one 7". Sicbay is ex-Dazzling Killmen and Collosamite. Forget the ex stuff though because Sicbay has two amazing records already out and are from the Twin Cities. They are going to be in Europe all of February. You can find upcoming shows for Sicbay listed in the shows section now. Deerhoof has a number of records on Kill Rock Stars/5RC. They are going to be touring this Spring and will have a new record called Milkman coming out on Kill Rock Stars. This split 7" should be out sometime in the Spring/Summer.
The second upcoming release is an LP compliation called Let's Be Active. It will be 500 LPs that will be hand screened. The compilation will have new tracks by Will Whitmore (who's new record on Southern is one of my faves of year), Paradise Island (solo project of Jenny from Erase Errata. She has a few things out on Dim Mak), Flaccid Trip (Joel of Ten Grand's new noise project with Luke Tweedy and help from the rest of the Ten Grand crew), and a few spoken/inspiration tracks. You'll see about that later. This compilation will have two tracks by each band. This compilation is for the Let's Be Active tour that features the artists on the compilation in addition to some art pieces that will accompany the tour in May. More information on the tour will be on the site this Spring. The tour will take place in early May and the record will be available at the same time.
The 3rd press of the Mirah 7" is looking to be closer to being done than ever before. The covers for the 3rd press got lost in the mail this summer and caused a major headache. Fortunately I have found someone in the Twin Cities who is going to print up the covers and hopefully they will be available in the next month or so. Mirah just finished a month tour in Europe and will be touring the states this Spring. She has a new record called C'mon Miracle that K records is releasing. I was fortunate to get an advance listen of the record and it is another spectacular record by her. Here is a link to a page that has pictures from her tour with the Blow from this past Fall http://www.kpunk.com/fanzine/fan_theblow.html
The Vets are in the process of finishing up a new record with Brooce Templeton at Analog Electric. The rough mix so far is amazing. It will be called "Ad Infinitum." 7 songs, 50 minutes. No word on when this will be released or by who.
The Plastic Constellations are recording a new record for a Twin Cities label called 2024 records. The label has a website at www.2024records.com The band plans to do a tour to support the release of the new album. The record is tentatively called Mazatlan and are with Jeff Tranberry at Tranberry studios.
Freeze Baby is recording a full length CD/LP at some point with Brooce Templeton. Mary and Steph of Freeze Baby are also working on some side projects.
Volante's new album Static Until Sunrise will be released on Guilt Ridden Pop early this year. They recorded it at Pachyderm with Brooce Templeton and it sounds amazing.
The Hidden Chord 7" on Modern Radio is out of print. I may get some returns again in the future but I don't expect any anytime soon.
Modern Radio related news: Adam Patterson(formerly of the Vets) and Jonathon of Signal To Trust have a new project called the Idiot that will be playing out around the Twin Cities. Coca-Colonial, a side project of Dave and Brian of Signal To Trust, has called it a day and are done. I have been listing the shows for The Idiot, The Stunning (Adam from the Vets) and Falcon Crest (Pete from Signal To Trust) in the shows section on the website. The Stunning have a split 7" coming out in the near future with a band called the Means. There are also plans for a split cassette release of the rest of the songs from the recording. The Stunning songs were recorded by Dave of Signal To Trust. Falcon Crest is working on a split 7" with Noodles (aka Happy Mother's Day I Can't Read) and Nils (local show goer who is doing comedy). No word on when this will be released. Falcon Crest will also be doing a 8 song CD for Not Bad Records out of Colorado soon.
Jeff of Grotto is playing in a Twin Cities band called Monarques with Nate of Selby Tigers, Trent from Cadillac Blindside, and Matt of Floodplain.
Motion City Soundtrack has been doing quite well and will be in Europe with Blink 182 this winter. Yeah, its pretty crazy but good for them.
10.24.03 Update
A new message board is up for the website. It is not broken down into sections and is easy to use. If you have any problems feel free to write me at tom@modern-radio.com .
The labels on the new 7" by Signal To Trust look a little messed up due a problem at the pressing plant. I apologize in advance. It doesn't affect the play. It is purely cosmetic. I added a picture of it and information on this release in the releases section.
The shows sections of the website has expanded to include shows listed by a few Modern Radio related bands and some other shows around the Twin Cities and elsewhere of interest. Here is the story on the Modern Radio related bands: Dave and Brian of Signal To Trust play in Coca-Colonial, Pete of Signal To Trust plays in Falcon Crest (who have a new 7" out on Double Indemnity), and Adam of the Vets plays in The Stunning . All of these bands play around
the Twin Cities area and are great live.
I some new releases in the works but nothing firm or that I can go into details yet. No new information on the Mirah record covers, when the Vets are recording next, or when the Plastic Constellations record is coming out.
9.16.03 Update
I am back from China. It was a great trip and experience that I will never forget.
The new 7" by Signal To Trust is now available for mailorder. They will be at stores in the Twin Cities very soon and outside the Twin Cities a little later. Signal To Trust will have copies of the record at shows starting tomorrow at the Triple Rock with Q and Not U. It is $4 postage paid with a first press of 500 copies on black vinyl with hand numbered covers. Brian of Signal To Trust did another great job on the covers. I am super excited it is out and people can hear it.
The Vets and Freeze Baby both had a good time on tour. By the time of the next update on the website, I will have the tour diaries/posts on the message board archived in some fashion or another.
The covers for the Mirah Small Sale 7" were lost in the mail and the person doing them doesn't have time to redo them. I am currently in the process of finding a different place or a different way of getting the covers done. Any suggestions would be helpful. A couple copies of the 2nd press are left but get in touch before ordering.
The Plastic Constellations are back in action. The boys are getting back in the swing of things with a new recording due out sometime late this year or early next year. They also have a new website at http://www.theplasticconstellations.com MP3's of their forthcoming album are on their website. Expect to see them playing shows around the Twin Cities and Midwest with plans to tour the majority of next summer. I saw them last weekend and they were in top form and played one of the best shows I have ever seen them play.
Volante finished the tracking and mixing of their new record. It has to be mastered and then it will be coming out sometime later in the year on Guilt Ridden Pop.
4.23.03 Update
Signal To Trust cancelled their summer tour. Brian got an invite to apply to a painting program at Yale and he would have been a fool to pass up the opportunity. The vinyl version of "Folklore" should be available in a week or two. The vinyl has arrived and Brian is dilligently screening the covers right now. The new Signal To Trust 7" is at the pressing plant and should be back soon. Brian will be making awesome hand screened covers. Both vinyl releases are limited to 300 copies in the initial press. Feel free to email me to reserve a copy. Expect an MP3 from the 7" on the website in the next few weeks.
Modern Radio will be co-releasing the new 7" by locals Freeze Baby. The 7" is four songs recorded by Brooce Templeton who recorded both Signal To Trust releases. I am hoping to have an MP3 and band page up on the website very soon. Freeze Baby shows will also be listed in the show section.
The Vets are still rocking the Twin Cities and are planning on recording this Summer.
Members of the The Gravity Index have been busy with projects. Nick is playing with Pariah Caste. They are playing the Twin Cities this weekend and I am excited to see them. Dav, Nate, and Brian's new band is now called Stab Stab Stab. They are playing with two other people named Fish and Casey. They have some shows scheduled soon and are hoping to tour. Dav is moving to Seattle in July so they won't be playing out for very long.
Mirah has a new record collaboration on K with Ginger Brooks Takahashi called Friends Songs From the Black Mountain Music Project. Mirah did this project in the Fall of 2002 and there is no word on the exact release date.
The Plastic Constellations new record is not currently scheduled to be released on Adonis records as previously listed on this website. Modern Radio may be helping in the collaboration of the release. The band is still on hiatus until Matt returns from his studies abroad this Spring.
Updates to the website: The message board is going strong. Stop in and post away. I added an ordering section with better details of prices and costs. I will have a printable order form available soon.
Personal note: I will be in China from mid June till September 1st. I will have help with mailorder and will have more information in the next month.
2.17.03 Update
THE MESSAGE BOARD IS FINALLY UP AGAIN!!!!!! Ok, I am calmed down. I finally have a functional message board kicking again. There are a bunch of different sections. Have fun and feel free to post about music, news politics or whatever in the chit chat section or Twin Cities music shows and news section. The other two sections will be reserved for Modern Radio specific posts for now. Click on board to check it out.
The vinyl version of "Folklore" by Signal To Trust should be available in about a 1 1/2 months. I am shipping everything out to the pressing plant this weekend. The 7" is being mastered in the coming weeks. The new Signal To Trust 7" is still slated to be out for their tour. It will be a month long tour starting May 15 till June 15 that will bring them to both coasts. I (Tom) will be going with them for either the entire tour or at least part of it. The tour schedule is fairly flexible so if you can help in any of the places or in a place near one of those places get in touch with me or the band at signaltotrust4@yahoo.com.
The 3rd press of the Mirah 7" has been temporarily delayed. The person I am using for the covers is having problems getting time to press the covers. As soon as the covers are done, I will update the website. I have a couple copies of the 2nd press of the 7" left so get in touch if you want to order one.
Volante is recording a new full length this spring. Part of it will be recorded at Pachyderm studios in Cannon Falls, MN. It is the same place Folklore by Signal To Trust was recorded. Brooce Templeton will record the album. Brooce has recorded a bunch of Twin Cities bands lately and everything has sounded great. Expect no less with the Volante record. The album will be released on Guilt Ridden Pop.
Motion City Soundtrack signed to Epitaph records. The CDEP Modern Radio co-released is out of print and won't be re-released by Modern Radio. I think the songs on the record are being re-recorded and released elsewhere.
12.20.02 Update
Signal To Trust recorded songs for a 7". Brian is working on handmaking all of the covers for the intial press of 300. It is 3 songs and they are all incredible. The songs were recorded with Brooce Templeton at Analog Electric in St. Paul. He recorded Folklore and will be recording a bunch of great bands from the Twin Cities over the next few months. Before the 7" comes out, Modern Radio (with help from a good kid in Minneapolis named Dusty) will be releasing the vinyl for "Folklore". The hope is to have the vinyl available for "Folklore" in March. The 7" will be out in May for tour. The band has not decided yet which direction they are going. If you are from one of the coasts and can help, get in touch with them signaltotrust4@yahoo.com.
The members of The Gravity Index are already working on new projects. Nick is singing in a band called Pariah Caste. It includes folks from Denver bands Contender, Angels Never Answer, 5 Day Messiah, and Bailer. Pariah Caste is already playing shows around the Denver area. Nick, Dav, and Brian got together with Jason Heller (formerly of the Blue Ontario) to form a new band called Puzzled Panther. They are working on songs and will play out in early 2003.
The Vets are continuing to write new songs and play out with their drummer Ryan. They are working on plans to play all around the midwest this Spring. If you are in the midwest email them at thevets_aband@yahoo.com.
Volante recently released a four song CDEP of remixes from their full length 45 Degrees North. You can find more information about ordering at the Guilt Ridden Pop website. Volante has had some posters done by Aesthetic Apparatus that you can find on their website. Aesthetic Apparatus is now located out of the Twin Cities and they do amazing screen print posters.
The Plastic Constellations have recorded a new full length to be released on a local label called Adonis. They have a new song on a comp benefiting a St. Paul all ages venue, Fireball Espresso Cafe, on Evil Owl Records. They will be playing a show in early January and then take a break while their drummer Matt studies abroad for a semester in Ireland.
End of 2002 notes: This year saw debut CD releases by the Vets, The Gravity Index, and Signal To Trust. Unfortunately, 2002 saw the demise of a number of bands that worked with Modern Radio including Grotto, The Hidden Chord, Gene Defcon(who for the most part is done), The American Monsters, and Selby Tigers. Fortunately all of these folks are continuing to make music in other groups and forms. 2003 will bring a vinyl version of the Signal To Trust album Folklore and a new 7" by them as well. Other releases are in the works.
The about section has changed and has a new demo policy. Look for a message board early in 2003.The photos are constantly being updated. A number of pictures have been added since the last update.
War is bullshit. Be vocal and let your representatives know that attacking a nation after starving it with sanctions for years is wrong. Protests are happening all around and information can be found all around from various sources online and in print. Violence never solves anything. Be smart and creative when protesting. Stay positive and support each other!
10.4.02 Update
GRAVITY INDEX IS BREAKING UP. Those of you in the Denver area make sure you see the Gravity Index tomorrow Oct. 5. It will be there last show ever. I am sad to see them breakup but everyone left on good terms. Dav, Brian, and Nate are already working on a new band as we speak so expect to hear about them very soon! I am bummed I won't get to see the last show so I hope those of you who go have fun for me. They cancelled their dates they had for the Fall tour as well. As the immortal Freddie Mercury said, another bites the dust.
Now to good news. Signal To Trust have plans for a 7" to be released sometime before the end of Spring. It will come out on Modern Radio. It will be a small press and will have some handmade covers. I am pretty excited. They won't be recording till at least December so don't expect the record for awhile. Plans are already in the works for vinyl of the "Folklore" album by Signal To Trust. Details are being worked out with a person in the Twin Cities who is helping release it but the hope is to have it out as soon as humanly possible. When that will be is yet to be figured out. Their CD "Folklore" is available via mailorder though for now. They are playing a bunch of shows in the midwest and if you want to help, email me or check out the bands website and email them.
9.13.02 Update

8.10.02 Update
The Vets have a drummer once again! His name is Ryan and he also plays in another local band call Red Life. The Vets are going to do a short four day jaunt in the midwest that they had scheduled awhile ago so check out the shows section for that. Shows will be Aug 14-Iowa City, Aug 15-Wisconsin, Aug 16-Chicago, and Aug 17-Ft. Wayne, IN. The shows they played with Jonathon all went well
The artwork is out of my hands now and at the factory. It is looking very likely that everything will be ready for the Sept. 11 release show with Q and Not U in Minneapolis. The artwork is amazing and I still haven't stopped listening to this record since I first heard it in January.
The Gravity Index tour dates are up. All of the dates are with Seattle's Super Magnificent Action Trio. I will have dates up for the Fall tour as they come along as well.
I have a column in the new issue of the New Scheme. The New Scheme is a zine out of Boulder, CO. Check out their website to see how you can order a copy.
7.26.02 Update
The Vets are once again looking for a new drummer. Johnathon Warnburg of Signal To Trust will be playing the local shows they currently have scheduled. Email them at thevets_aband@yahoo.com if you are interested or can help. They will not be touring as previously listed but if you are in the Twin Cities area you can see them this Sunday, on the 6th with Ten Grand. Don't miss your opportunity.
The Signal To Trust record is now looking like a September release at this point. Brian is being meticulous about the artwork. He did the design for the Hidden Chord's most recent album. The wait will definitely be worth it. Trust me. Signal To Trust will be playing several local shows in the meantime and planning to play around the midwest as well. If you want to help email them at signaltotrust@hotmail.com
The Gravity Index are in the midst of planning a Fall tour and their West coast tour starts in mid-August with Super Magnificent Action Trio. They will do a total of 6 weeks on the road with a three week break in between so if you live anywhere in the united states and can help email them at thegi@thegravityindex.com
The Mirah shows in the Twin Cities at the beginning of July were wonderful. If you haven't gotten a chance to check her out live, do yourself a favor and go see her perform. She is doing a bunch of shows in Norway and Europe and a couple in the US as well. I'll try to keep the website updated.
Volante are ironing out details to record their new material with J. Robbins sometime late this year or early next year. These songs will be included with the remixed songs from 45 Degrees North for a CD release on Guilt Ridden Pop for a Spring 2003 release (but that is always subject to change)
