Some pals'o'mine were gonna do Nantucket Sleighride in its entirety. Hopefully they'll bring it back together and do it this winter, cause they're the right group for the job. Totally agree about the clunker-to-good ones assessment.
Listening to the Mondo reissues of Twin Peaks OST and Twin Peaks:FWWM OST. They are...okay.
The FWWM was missing the first LP and had two copies of the second LP. Groan. I compared and found one sounded like ass and the other was okay, so the ass one went back and they sent me the correct record.
Nice to own these but Rhino are reissuing them again, and probably with better pressings.
I swear I don't fall for every Record Store Day type bullshit-reissue-bait. I certainly will stay far away from Mondo from here on out.
@September11th fucking love Pharmakon, need to check out the new one.
been listening to the first volume of a two volume Nigerian 70's psych rock comp. highly recommended. haven't even made it to the second volume because I've been enjoying the first so much.
Got this one a few months back. It is indeed top notch.
Swans - Deliquesscence - brand new live 2xCD that was for sale one the Young God website, but is now apparently gone (still available at upcoming shows). Features three new pieces, which MG says will not be recorded or released elsewhere. Good stuff, pretty much the set I saw them play in London last October.
Liner notes and photos are particularly good.
Much live music.
Karen Dalton - Cotton Eyed Joe (live in Boulder 1962) - crazy fucking good
Husker Du - Land Speed Record - never really listened to this before, I really like a lot of it. Some of it is seriously great. I read a review of it that said it has nothing to do with the music they put out later. Incorrect! Most of those songs sound very much like Husker Du songs, just played by guys who are super jacked up on speed in 1981.
Grateful Dead - Cornell May 1977 - supposedly their greatest show, and it is indeed damn good. Jack Straw, Morning Dew, Row Jimmy, and the Scarlet Begonias/Fire on the Mountain combo are all top notch.
Velvet Underground - Matrix Tapes - almost too good, get the fuck outta here.
also why does no one talk about this track as being like
singular in its expression of depression/mental illness in black life
(says a white dude)
