Gonna see Sumac with Oxbow tomorrow night, hope dude's vocals aren't too high in the mix. They kinda bug me.
Wire - Silver/Lead
Curtis Mayfield - Sweet Excorcist
Pink Floyd - Mooed Music (BBC sessions boot from just before Atom Heart Mother).
haha your mansion got burnt.
Herbie Hancock @ MN Zoo, August 11.
Captain Fantastic - not very good. Unsure of what this movie was supposed to be. Too dark and self-serious to be a dysfunctional family road story; is it an elegy to, or a critique of, the hippie/dropout/bush family fantasy? And while there is a solid cast all the way through, it got kind of hard to care about any of them after a while. By the time Viggo's character has his existential crisis, it didn't seem to have much weight. Plus some "that wouldn't have really happened" bits, and finally a scene that about ruins what's left of the movie. Feh.
. . .and yet ANOTHER band I was supposed to be seeing at Safe As Milk next week.
To call it synth-pop, like a lot of people are, doesn't quite seem to nail it.
I really know next to nothing about their back catalog, and there seems to be a lot of it.
The new one sounded okay with the gloom outside.
Trappist Afterland - God's Green Earth & Like A Beehive, The Hill Was Alive - "Gnostic folk" from Australia, in a similar vein to Current 93 at times (Tibet himself was praising them online). Mixes in Eastern drone instruments with the usual acoustic guitar, flute etc. Very good.
Ulver - The Assassination of Julius Ceasar
