| I guess I could just post the actual review...by the way, if internet people are to be believed, the recording is identical to the first Couch ep. WHO KNOWS? Steev Mike s/t Bulb 1992 7” EP £5.99 Who the fuck is Steev Mike? Mysterious storeroom find of this classic exercise in basement obfuscation isn’t likely to shed any more light on the subject but this 1992 Bulb EP remains a classic slice of American what the fuck, moving from the kind of unorthodox/angular avant garage that Charlie Nothing hung up his saxophone for through to classic Michigan-styled muscular noise chug. One of *those* singular/world-defining EPs that you just keep coming back to. Anyone interested in the whole Steev Mike/Andrew WK saga (is this WK? Did WK even exist? Is Steev Mike actually a prank by someone in Wolf Eyes? Is Dylan Nyoukis Steev Mike? And where exactly was Clint Simonson back in 1992?) might wanna spend some time with Google but anyone who digs 100% uncut countercultural contraband and wants to stay the hell away from E-Bay, well, they’d better dig the fuck in. No info whatsoever with this single. Highly recommended. |

"Steev Mike" controversy Many contradictory versions of Andrew W.K.'s history and rise to celebrity have coexisted, with some of the contradictions seemingly coming from Andrew himself, however the source of the confusion is difficult to pin down. As a result, some have claimed he is an actor merely playing as a rock star, and a front for some sort of songwriter or songwriting team. It has been suggested that Andrew W.K.'s appearance is the creation of this entity. Rumors have circulated that before there was an "Andrew W.K." the press was holding interviews with a "Steev Mike" whose image and sound later became known as "Andrew W.K." (the first appearance of "Steev Mike" was inside the pages of the cutting-edge UK magazine "Dazed & Confused".) Furthermore, a vinyl record by Steev Mike has been discovered, and is the same as the first 7" EP by the band Couch. A radio promo and a full album by Steev Mike have also been leaked onto the internet by unknown sources. The promo contains demos of tracks from I Get Wet and The Wolf, and even a demo of the new song Kicks & Bricks. The album has 12 tracks, 2 being not songs, but a spoken word piece and an interlude. The rest are songs from I Get Wet and The Wolf. The songs on the album have changed drastically on their appearances on I Get Wet and The Wolf. Though seemingly no one knows who Steev Mike really is, he is listed as the producer of Andrew's first album, I Get Wet, his third album, Close Calls With Brick Walls, and his live DVD, Who Knows. |
