"Drunken Boat are a great band from Portland. They've been around for a long time. They've done splits with Bent Outta Shape, Dan Padilla, and Blotto, and have records out on 1-2-3-4-Go! Records, Salinas, Snuffy Smile, and Fast Crowd. Drunken Boat play a classic style of pop punk in the vein of bands like Crimpshrine; dirty, gritty, and dark, yet still poppy and melodic.
The Keep Aways and The DT's are two of Duluth's classic best bands and neither of them play often anymore and have never played at Bohemia. Not to be missed..
Peer Precious is a new band with Mike, Kyle and Connor and it's been in the works for quite some time. Debut show!"

Rocket USA is doing a rad thing for Duluth. There are a lot of great shows and venues in the cities but it is rad to see someone in a smaller town put on shows at non-traditional show spaces like art museums, creepy mansions and planetariums. Kudos to Rocket USA. I am hoping to go to whatever he sets up in December because I feel like I should have went to either the mansion or planetarium show.

First show at Sinz's new place! Going to be a really good show. The Pharmacy are a great band - really well written spastic pop music with their 3rd full length out now. They're on tour from New Orleans and were originally from Seattle but relocated to the South about a year ago. Honky Horn & Bad Mouth are a great band and good friends from Brooklyn NY. They too have a new record out, a self released 10", and it is some of the best shit I've heard in a long time. One of my favorite drummers of ALL TIME (he used to play in the band Tulsa). Clawthroat are from Minneapolis and play great pro-sounding high energy folk music with a full loud band and they are all real good at what they play. Joe Downing, their front man, is an extremely good singer and song writer. AND Peer Precious is playing and this will be our second show ever. Some say Peer Precious is "Duluth's hottest new band since Trampled By Turtles? more like since Bob Dylan"

they go on to briefly inform me that our school has a music hall, and that's where music is supposed to go.

This bar is The Loading Zone. The rockabilly band was The Acceleratti, I was at that fish fry and it was one of the coolest things thats happened in the Twin Ports in a long ass time.
anywho, I've started playing again and have some ins and some knows abouts on what's going on for playing at bars.
I highly suggest against bringing 3 bands up from the cities unless you don't care about any money, but it sounds fun. Let me know so my band can be the "local opener".
Drewcifer, if Brain Tumors wants to play with a grind band, let me know. We could probably play at the Thirsty Pagan on a weekend. Maybe Quinlan's if we had a headliner. Are you guys a bar band or a basement band?

It's weird because I went to duluth for college in sept. One of the only times I'd ever been there. I just picked motel 6 because it was cheap. I saw that duluth grill restaurant right next door and thought it was just some shitty cafe place. then I saw some tye-dye hippies smoking out back. I didn't go...since that trip, I've heard all these good things about the duluth grill...weird! I'll have to go there when I go back in January.

Luce is fun but most of the time the music they book there sucks.
Also, the Duluth Grill is super good, and I'm sorry you had to stay at that Motel 6, because that place is super sketchy.

Suishou no Fune (Holy Mountain Records) and Thunderbolt Pagoda will be playing a show in the wonderful Marshall W. Alworth Planetarium at the University of Minnesota Duluth on Tuesday, 12 June 2012.
Space Rock goes best with a star machine. Thunderbolt Pagoda got a chance to play here a couple of years ago and it was amazing. We are very happy to be able to bring our Japanese friends to this incredible building to play together. If you are in the area, please come and check it out. Much different than a standard “rock show,” and a very cool-sounding room as well as visually amazing.

yes, but they are having an annual thing "One Week Live" I think it's called. Kind of a "come out to beaners AT LEAST ONCE PER YEAR" kinda thing, but a lot of people do.
Top Serious Advice. Go to a couple of the bars around there like the Rustic or The Gopher (Mr. D's is too big and Kom On Inn is well, rough) for some great locals.

There will be gardens. Oh yes, there will be gardens. I'll also have a bee colony, horses, chickens, probably a donkey cause they're awesome, and maybe a dairy cow.
I have 10 acres to play with. There's already a barn, chicken coop, and a couple nice outbuildings to go along with it.

yep this show got cancelled. My band had to cancel, and it tried for a week to find a replacement, and because my singer hangs at the bar all the time, the bar cancelled the show. It was kind of a shitshow of miscommunication from the get go.
