After taking almost 19,000 pictures and many other scientific measurements, Voyager 1 completes its Jupiter encounter in early April.
Also, a new type of star, the Magnetar, was discovered when a tremendous burst of gamma radiation was detected by spacecraft all over the solar system.

The Bhopal disaster happened on the day of my birth, April 8 1985, in Madhya Pradesh, India.
I was just listening to a thing about this on MPR. It's still having economic/health effects on people in the region. It was a pesticide plant that exploded, owned by Dow Chemicals. Such a bad event!
However, Winchester Cathedral was dedicated on April 8th in 1093, and that is one of the coolest buildings I've ever seen. So that balances things out a bit. Although I suppose tons of serfs were killed building it and all the money to build was stolen from peasants or whatever :(
